The rubber  O-ring for the Filtrol Lint Filter ensures that the cap to the Filtrol stays water tight, not allowing leakage out of the top of the canister.  The rubber O-ring may be lubed with a non-petroleum product to ease the opening of the canister during maintenance when required.
